May Wrap Up

Overall:

May was a pretty good reading month for me. I read about the same amount of pages as I have been most of this year,

but it equated to one fewer books this month as I was reading longer fantasy books.

I also had a five star read this month which is always exciting as I haven’t been finding as many of those recently.

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry:

5 /5 stars

As you can tell I loved this book. It was everything I want in an Emily Henry. Fun, funny, sexy,  but also heartbreaking at times.

I really enjoyed the slight difference this book gave from Emily Henry’s previous work in terms of narrative style.

I thought it was really interesting and completely fit what the story needed. I always feel like Emily Henry is an adult version of my favourite YA romance author as a kid (Sarah Dessen)

and I am always so pleased to find myself getting the same feelings reading her books as I did reading Sarah Dessen.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir:

3.5 /5 stars

It is hard to give a detailed review of a third book in a series but I will try my best to be vague. I overall enjoyed this book,

and was pleased with both where the story went and how the characters evolved throughout this book.

But I did feel that the plot dragged a little bit in the middle which is my overall critique for every book in this series.

I also think that sometimes it suffers from having as many points of view as it does.

Heartstopper Vol. 3 by Alice Osman

4 /5 stars

Cute, just cute. I am really enjoying reading one of these volumes a month and just getting a peak into the life of Charlie and Nick.

I can absolutely understand why these took off the way that they did. Just a nice little nugget to brighten your day.

The only thing that stopped me from giving it five stars was that I just didn’t get that 5 star feeling.

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

3.75 /5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were fun and the story was interesting.

As someone who comes from a STEM background I definitely enjoy jumping back into the world of Science Academia.

This book did feel like it suffered from how ridiculous the story got and the climax did have me rolling my eyes a little bit.

I also do hate how Ali always has to mention how tiny her female protagonists are. But this was definitely an improvement in that regard from The Love Hypothesis.

And oooooo do I love me an Ali Hazelwood written man. There was a moment closer to the end of the book where Levi throws some SHADE at another male scientist

and it was so good and juicy I actually screamed out loud.

A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir

4 /5 stars

I have very similar thoughts about this one as I did with A Reaper at the Gates, the only difference being that I thought that Sabaa Tahir did a really good job at landing the plane.

I thought that the series wrapped up really well. I feel like we spent enough time with each character to feel satisfied with their ending.

I will be reading Heir at some point this year I think and looking forward to that.
